Brett Deledio will depart Richmond after a deal was reached with the Greater Western Sydney Giants on the final day of the AFL Trade period.

Richmond has strengthened its 2017 Draft prospects in the trade for the 29-year-old to receive a future first round selection, (aligned to Geelong) and GWS’ future third round selection in next year’s Draft.

Deledio was recruited to Richmond as the number one draft pick in the 2004 National AFL Draft, he went on to play 243 games for the Tigers and booted 182 goals.

His leaves the Club as a dual Jack Dyer Medallist (2008, 2009) and Richmond vice-captain 2015-16.

“Brett's a fantastic player and has given our football club wonderful service for 12 seasons,” Richmond’s General Manager – Football Talent, Dan Richardson said.

“He's a talented competitor, and wore the Richmond jumper with pride every time he pulled it on.

“After 12 seasons with Richmond, we understand his desire for a fresh start to continue his football career, and we've been able to reach a deal that satisfies both football clubs and Brett.

“We wish Brett, his wife Katie, and their daughter Milla all the best for the future, and they're always welcome at Richmond.”

“We’re really pleased with the three players we’ve brought into the Club during this trade period, we’ve bolstered our midfield and ruck/forward depth, and put ourselves in a good position for next year’s Draft.”

Senior coach, Damien Hardwick also paid tribute to the departing star.

“It’s always difficult to say goodbye to a player like ‘Lids’ that has given such a significant part of his life to the Club,” Hardwick said.

“He’s made a wonderful contribution to our football Club for over a decade, and we wish him, Katie and Milla all the best.”

Richmond has selections 27, 56, 82 and 100 in the 2016 National AFL Draft.
