The arrival at Richmond of strong, aggressive, young ruckman Toby Nankervis from Sydney, during the AFL’s recently completed 2016 trade period, provides the Tigers’ ruck stocks with a timely boost, according to the Club’s General Manager – Football Talent Dan Richardson.

Nankervis, who played 12 senior league games in a three-year stint with the Swans, was traded to Richmond in exchange for pick 46 in the November National Draft.

The Tigers targeted him as the ideal type of developing big man to add to their ruck division.

“Clearly now we’ve got some good ruck depth,” Richardson said.

“Ivan (Maric), importantly, we signed on for another year . . . and Shaun Hampson, we know, had a really solid year.

“We certainly see Toby being able to complement those guys.

“And throw in Ivan Soldo, who’s still young and developing, and Ben Griffiths, who’s capable of playing that forward-ruck role as well.

“Competitions for spots will be tough in that area of the ground, but that’s a good thing for us.”
