Richmond will honour the mighty Tiger Army, by inviting members and supporters to march with the premiership flag ahead of the flag raising ceremony at the MCG on Thursday night.

The Tigers will unfurl the premiership flag for the first time in 37 years, ahead of its Round 1 blockbuster with Carlton at the MCG.

Grateful for the loyal and passionate support from the Tiger Army, Richmond is inviting members and supporters to assist in the delivery of the 2017 premiership flag to the MCG.

Fans can participate in a march with the flag from the Club’s home at the Swinburne Centre, Punt Road Oval, to its spiritual home, the MCG at 6pm on Thursday evening.

Richmond has selected 11 special members as flag-bearers, to represent the Club’s members and supporter base, and each of Richmond’s 11 premierships. The flag-bearers will transport the flag from Punt Road Oval to the MCG.

Once inside the MCG, the flag will be carried down through the crowd at the Punt Road End, through the Richmond Cheer Squad, and complete a lap around the MCG arena with the flag-bearers.

Richmond President, Peggy O’Neal will receive the flag, deliver a short speech to the fans at the MCG, and raise the flag on behalf of the Club, players and the Tiger Army.

“After a lot of discussion and ideas for the flag unfurling, ultimately we wanted to reward the loyal and passionate people who have been with us on our journey, and that’s the Tiger Army,” Richmond CEO, Brendon Gale said.

“We have built a wonderful connection with our fans, and we see the flag unfurling ceremony as an opportunity to highlight this, we couldn’t have done it without them.”
